Inspired by the sea, mountains, gastronomy, and distinctive cultures of Northern Spain, this journey explores the remarkable regions that stretch along the Bay of Biscay, from the Basque Country and La Rioja to Cantabria, Asturias, and Galicia —from the Michelin-starred restaurants of San Sebastián and the celebrated vineyards of La Rioja to the vibrant waterfront of Bilbao, the coastal elegance of Santander, the cider houses of Oviedo, and the timeless streets of Santiago de Compostela where the world famous Camino of Santiago do Compostela pilgrimage ends.
Day 1: Donostia - San Sebastián
Arrive in world-renowned San Sebastián and settle into the rhythm of the Basque culinary capital. Begin with a guided stroll through the historic cobblestone streets of the Parte Vieja (Old Town), diving into the heart of Basque food culture on a private pintxos and wine tour. Savor handcrafted bites paired seamlessly with crisp local Txakoli or regional vintages. Later, ascend Monte Igueldo for panoramic views over La Concha Bay before concluding your evening with three-Michelin-starred dining at Akelarre overlooking the Cantabrian Sea.
Day 2: Hondarribia & Getaria
Set off along the rugged coastline with your private guide to explore the charm of nearby coastal havens like medieval Hondarribia or the historic fishing port of Getaria. Day 3: Bilbao

Day 4: La Rioja & Logroño
Travel south into the sun-drenched valleys of La Rioja accompanied by a dedicated winery host. Tour prestigious estates, including the architectural spectacle of Bodegas Marqués de Riscal, to sample world-class vintages straight from the barrel. Continue to Logroño for an afternoon of regional heritage, visiting the Concatedral de Santa María de la Redonda, the lively Mercado San Blas, and the historic Puente de Piedra. After checking into Áurea Palacio de Correos, indulge in an intimate omakase experience at Kiro Sushi.
Day 5: Santander
Drive along the scenic northern coast into Cantabria and arrive in Santander. Spend the afternoon taking in the architectural brilliance of Renzo Piano’s Centro Botín and walking along the golden sands and seaside promenades of El Sardinero. In the evening, immerse yourself in local culture with dinner at the famed Cañadío, renowned for its classic Cantabrian dishes and lively atmosphere.
Day 6: Santander & Santillana del Mar
Uncover Santander’s aristocratic history with a visit to the majestic Palacio de la Magdalena perched on its peninsula, followed by a stroll through the bustling Mercado de la Esperanza. Choose to spend a relaxed afternoon along the waterfront or set out on a half-day coastal excursion to discover nearby medieval treasures such as Santillana del Mar, the prehistoric art at the Cave of Altamira Neocueva, or Antoni Gaudí’s colorful masterpiece, El Capricho, in Comillas.
Day 7: Oviedo
Dedicate a full day in Oviedo. Accompanied by your private guide or self guided, walk through the lush paths of Campo de San Francisco, visit the Cathedral of San Salvador, and sample regional ciders at a traditional local sidrería along Calle Gascona where many of the towns most celebrated restaurants are located. Cuisine includes raditional dishes include Fabada Asturiana, a hearty bean stew with chorizo and morcilla, and Cachopo, a breaded veal fillet stuffed with ham and cheese. Seafood is also a highlight, with dishes like Hake a la Sidra (hake cooked in cider).
Day 8: Lugo
Leave Oviedo and travel west toward Galicia, with a stop in Lugo, one of Spain's oldest cities and home to remarkably preserved Roman heritage. Begin with a guided walk along the UNESCO-listed Roman Walls, followed by the Lugo Cathedral, Praza Maior, and the archaeological remains of the Domus do Mitreo. A short visit to the Praza de Abastos provides a glimpse into the local food culture before continuing the journey.
Lugo in Spain is the only city in the world to be surrounded by completely intact Roman walls, which reach a height of 10 to 15 metres (33 to 49 feet) along a 2,117-metre (6,946 ft) circuit ringed with 71 towers.
After lunch, drive onward to Santiago de Compostela, arriving in the afternoon. Settle into your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure in the historic center, perhaps taking an evening stroll around the cathedral and surrounding squares.
Day 9 to Day 10: Santiago de Compostela
Spend a full day exploring Santiago de Compostela with a private local guide. The tour introduces you to the city's extraordinary medieval center, centered around the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago, the traditional destination of pilgrims traveling the Camino de Santiago.
Walk through the atmospheric historic quarter and its grand squares, including Praza do Obradoiro, Praza da Quintana, and Praza das Praterías, while your guide brings the city's history, pilgrimage traditions and architecture to life. There will also be time to discover the quieter streets, historic buildings and local character beyond the cathedral, with time for a relaxed Galician lunch and further exploration at your own pace.
On your final day in Santiago do Compostela, consider a day trip to some fascinating places like Playa de las Catedrales. Roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes north near Ribadeo. At low tide, the receding ocean reveals massive, 30-meter stone arches and caves resembling Gothic cathedrals.
Cambados: Located about a 45-minute drive south. It is the undisputed capital of Albariño white wine and while here explore the historic Pazo de Rubianes botanical gardens and book a tasting at a local winery.
Combarro: A 1-hour drive south. This exceptionally picturesque fishing village is famous for its dense concentration of hórreos—traditional granite granaries built right over the water's edge.
