Trip Itinerary

The drive from Lisbon to Évora normally takes about 1 hour and 15 to 1 hour 30 minutes, covering roughly 130 kilometers (81 miles) via highways A2 and A6. This is a direct and quick route primarily on motorways, with scenic sections through the Alentejo countryside near Évora.

Praca do Giraldo
Start with a 15-minute walking tour in the heart of Évora’s historic center. This bustling square is a social and cultural hub surrounded by beautiful architecture and lively cafes.

Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos)
Spend 45 minutes exploring this famous and eerie monument. The chapel’s walls are covered with human bones and skulls, a striking reminder of mortality. It is part of the Church of Mercês’ Nucleus of Sacred Art, offering a unique historical and religious experience.

Roman Temple of Diana (Templo Romano de Évora)
A 20-minute visit to this well-preserved ancient Roman temple. Known locally as the Temple of Diana, it stands as a symbol of Évora’s Roman heritage and architectural grandeur.

Cathedral of Évora (Sé Catedral de Évora)
Tour Portugal’s largest Gothic cathedral in 40 minutes. The cathedral impresses with its massive structure, beautiful stained glass, and intricate stonework, reflecting centuries of religious art.

Igreja de São Tiago
Spend 15 minutes admiring the church’s interior, which includes a single nave with a barrel vault adorned with frescoes. The sides display vivid tile panels by ceramist Gabriel del Barco, depicting biblical scenes. Note that this site does not have regular visiting hours.
