Real Alcázar and Seville Cathedral Tour – 3-Hour Walking Itinerary
Includes tickets to the Royal Alcazar Palace, Cathedral of Seville and Giralda Tower
Your guide will meet you at your accommodation located in the historic center of Seville or at the entrance of the Real Alcazar.
The walk connects two of Seville’s historic landmarks, both deeply rooted in the city’s ancient past when it was part of the Arab kingdom of Seville.
The Real Alcázar began pre-9th century as a Moorish palace and remains a stunning example of Mudejar architecture with stunning original painted and glazed tiles in geometric shapes. Visits include the richly gilded wood that decorates the Ambassadors’ Hall, where important diplomatic meetings once took place.
The palace reflects centuries of cultural fusion and was a royal residence through many eras, including the post-10th century when the Christian monarchs reconquered the city of Seville.
Just a short walk away, Seville Cathedral stands on the site of a former mosque from the Arab period. This Gothic masterpiece is the largest cathedral in the world, with the Giralda tower originally built as a minaret. At the Cathedral you’ll enter the only remaining part of the Mosque, the Patio of the Oranges, famous for its fragrant orange tree and see inside both the several stories high golden and enameled Altar screen with seeming life sized figures. Inside, the tomb of Christopher Columbus adds to its historical importance. Here history confronts you around every corner including the Roman Empires domination of the city, evident in the stone columns surrounding the Cathedral repurposed nearby ruins of the Roman town of Italica.
